Fishing in Oulu

Oulu is a diverse fishing area with a variety of locations and fish species.

Our fishing services are provided with 4.3 m aluminium boat, which is at its best especially in small and shallow waters. It also has the advantage of being perfectly suited to fishing sites that lack a boat ramp.

The boat has casting decks for up to three anglers in addition to the guide, an electric trolling motor with a GPS sky anchor, Garmin Echomap sonar and Garmin Panoptix LiveScope sonar to locate fish with high probability.

In spring 2023, our guide Jarkko Auno's team won the Rennosti series of Finland's biggest fishing competition, the HK Open, out of a total of 1194 boats. They took part in the Oulu region.

Fishing in the archipelago of the Oulu sea area

This fishing trip starts with a 15-20 minute boat ride from the departure point through a beautiful archipelago to the fishing spots. Depending on the client's wishes, the aimed catch is either pike or perch. We fish mostly shallow and rocky waters. Among all of our fishing destinations the Oulu sea area has the best catch probability.

Driving distance from the Oulu city centre: 30 minutes

Fishing techniques: Cast fishing and jig fishing

Typical catch:

Pike up to 4 kg, but the possibility of larger ones exists.
Perch up to 500 g, but the possibility of much larger ones exists.
Zander up to 1 kg, larger ones not very common.

Catch probability: Very good

What is done with the catch: A suitable number of less than 3 kg pikes and all perches and zanders can be selected for food. The largest individuals are released.

Type of fishing area: Archipelago on the edge of open sea. We fish mostly shallow and rocky waters.

Cancellations due to weather: As the Oulu sea area is relatively unprotected, the trip has a wind limit. If the trip has to be canceled due to the weather forecast, we will contact the customer and move the event to a more sheltered location in Oulu.

Season: From May until the end of September

Who is it for: Both beginners and more experienced fishers who want a fishing trip where the probability of a catch is good and you get to see the seascape of the city of Oulu.

Fishing on a small lake

On this trip, the traget is to catch pike on a small, shallow lake near the city of Oulu, using cast fishing. The width of the lake is only 2 kilometers, but the lake is home to really big pikes, over 10 kilos. The fishing utilizes a Garmin Panoptix sonar to locate the fish with a high probability, to be able to see fish movements underwater and to cast accurately for individual fish. This trip has the potential for some really big specimens.

Possible catch:

Pike up to 4 kg, but the possibility of much larger ones exists. The largest may be over 10 kg.

Catch probability: The probability of catching a pike less than 4 kg is good and the probability of the largest individuals is moderate.

What is done with the catch: Since the sonar is used to search for the largest individuals, most of the catch is released. Smaller specimens can be selected for food in moderation.

Type of fishing area: Shallow and lush lake near the city of Oulu.

Cancellations due to weather: The area is quite sheltered, so the safari can be carried out in almost any weather.

Season: From the beginning of June until the end of October.

Who it's suitable for: With beginners, we focus on catching medium-sized fish. With the more experienced customers, we try to catch a trophy fish with livescope sonar.

Fishing in the urban delta of River Oulu

The delta of River Oulu flows directly through the center of Oulu and enables the group to be picked up on boat from, for example, the Market Square of Oulu. In spring and autumn we use cast fishing for pike and perch. In midsummer, we focus on the jig fishing of zander and perch. During the day, we will tell you about the history of Oulu and its delta area.

Typical catch:

Zander of 45 - 55 cm with a possibility for more than 60 cm
Perch of 250 - 400 g with a possibility of more than 700 g
Pike of 1 - 2 kg with a possibility of more than 5 kg

Catch probability: The probability of perch is good and the probability of medium zander and pike is moderate.

What is done with the catch: An appropriate number of fish is selected for food and the undersized and the largest individuals are released.

Type of fishing area: River estuary in an urban cityscape of Oulu.

Weather reservation: The area is quite sheltered, so the safari can be carried out in almost any weather.

Season: From the beginning of June until the end of September.

Who it's suitable for: Mostly for beginners who want to fish in an urban environment, but also for more experienced fishermen who want to go fishing right from the center of Oulu.

Fishing in the upstream of River Oulu

The upper reaches of the Oulu River offer some nice fishing spots, with big fish lurking in the depths. This safari is not about catching as many fish as possible, but about using the Garmin LiveScope sonar technology to find the biggest fish from deeper waters.

Typical catch:

Pike of 2 - 3 kg with a possibility of more than 10 kg
Perch of 250 - 400 g with a possibility of more than 1 kg
Zander of 45 - 55 cm with a possibility of more than 70 cm

Probability of catch: Moderate

What is done with the catch: An appropriate number of fish is selected for food and the undersized and the largest individuals are relesed.

Type of fishing area: A sheltered deep river, where we fish either close to go to the basin below the hydroelectric power plant and sometimes to a rural landscape

Weather reservation: The area is quite sheltered, so the trip can be carried out in almost any weather.

Season: From the beginning of May until the end of September.

Who is it for: Beginners as well as more experienced fishers who want to fish for predatory fish in a river bed.
